“Yamane ryu is one of the oldest styles of Okinawan bojutsu to survive into the 21st century.
Utilising swift defences and rapid striking techniques Yamane ryu is a form of bojutsu built upon the lessons learnt from fighting with the six foot staff. In its earliest expression the techniques might well have used a spear. Today the style favours a six foot non-tapered ‘rokushaku bo’.
Yamane ryu is distinct among bojutsu styles for its sliding striking/thrusting method and fluid defences that empower an exponent to defend against multiple armed opponents using disarms, throws and strikes.
